Strong showing for CR gymnasts in Surrey

The Carol Lenz Memorial classic and Surrey invitational took place March 6th-8th.  Campbell River sent 5 athletes to this competition.  The athletes had a strong competition bringing home 3 All Around Champions and all 5 athletes had podium finishes.

Brooklyn Batch connected a shoot over to free hip for the first time on bars, Janika Scriba connected a clear hip circle to toe on front dismount for the first time off bars as well.

Ksenia Stansell added a front tuck to back handspring connection on beam for the first time.

Owen Harbo competed his blind change on high bar successfully for the first time.

This competition also acted as 2nd trials to Canadian Championships for Carson Ogg.  Carson finished in 2nd place and his All Around score was good enough to qualify for funding to the Canadian Championships.  His final trials to Canadians will be at the Provincial Championships in April which will then finalize the team to Canadians.

JO 10

Brooklyn Batch captured the Gold medals on both bars and beam, won the Silver medals on both vault and floor to come home as the All Around Champion.

Janika Scriba won the Gold medals on vault and floor, captured the Silver medals on both bars and beam to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around.

JO 9

Ksenia Stansell won the Gold medals on vault, bars beam and floor to capture all Gold and win the All Around title.

Men’s National Open

Carson Ogg won the Gold medal on parallel bars, captured the Silver medals on floor, pommel horse, vault and high bar, finished with the Bronze medal on rings to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around.

Provincial 4

Owen Harbo captured the Gold medals on floor and rings, won the Silver medals on vault, parallel bars and high bar, won the Bronze medal on pommel horse to come home as the All Around Champion.

BCSS Gymnnastics Championships Campbell River schools come home with medals

Janika Scriba and Tyza Skuse from Carihi Secondary and Ksenia Stansell from Timberline represented their schools at the BC High School Championships on March 5th.  They were competing in the Level 5 division.

Janika Scriba had a great competition becoming the High School Champion on vault, taking 4th place on the bars, finishing 12th on floor and 15th on beam to come home in 5th place in the All Around.  Janika also won a $300.00 school bursary from Will Erickson who has made a generous contribution to graduating students.

Ksenia Stansell captured the Silver medal on beam, won the 7th place ribbon on vault and finished 10th on both bars and floor, coming in 5th place All Around.

Tyza Skuse won the 8th place ribbons on both vault and bars, finished 10th on beam and 11th on floor to come home in 8th place in the All Around.

CR Gymnasts have strong showing at Mount Arrowsmith competition

On February 29th several girls from Campbell River Gymnastics Association attended a competition in Port Alberni.  The girls had a great meet coming home with almost 20 medals as a group!

This competition qualified JO 3-5 athletes to Provincials.  Congratulations to all the athletes as they all scored enough to go to the JO Provincials later in April in Langley.

Highlights include Gold medals from Hannah Thomas, Grace Fraser and Lacey Palmer on their vaults, Silver medals from Shyanne Johnson on bars, Isabelle Alsager on beam, Sophie Pallan on vault, Haylee Toohey on bars and All Around, and Scarlett Walker on vault and floor.  Bronze medal winners included Shyanne Johnson on beam, Kaylie Lofstrom on vault, Sophie Pallan on bars and beam, Chloe Stewart on floor, Haylee Toohey on vault and floor, and Scarlett Walker on bars!   Congrats to all the athletes!

CR Gymnasts have strong showing in Langley

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent a small group of gymnasts to Langley for the Christy Fraser competition held in the Langley Events centre February 14th-16th 2020.

The athletes had a strong competition coming home with multiple medals including two All Around Champions.  This was the first trials for the Canadian Championships for the boys National Open category.

Carson Ogg stepped up to the challenge winning the National Open division that has now set himself up for his first possible birth to the Canadian Championships later this year in Gatineau Quebec.

Jack Martin also had a strong competition winning the All Around competition in the Provincial 5 division.

Congrats to Miley Konrad who won the Gold medal on floor in JO 6, Shea Bridgen for her Silver medals on bars and beam in JO 7, and Brooklyn Batch and Janika Scriba for finishing 4th and 5th on vault in the JO 10 division.

Campbell River girls qualify for High School Provincials

Janika Scriba and Tyza Skuse from Carihi and Ksenia Stansell from Timberline all competed to qualify for the High School Provincial Championships in Victoria in early March.

The competition was held at the Chimo in Comox February 9th.  There were 3 spots up for grabs and all three girls qualified taking 1st, 2nd  and 3rd spots respectively.  Congratulations to all three girls representing their school and club (CRGA).  Good luck at the High School Provincials!

Janika Scriba had a great competition winning each event and the All Around.

Tyza showed great routines on vault and floor to capture the Silver medals on both vault and floor while Ksenia showed strong routines on bars and beam to capture the Silver medals on those events.

CR Gymnasts win more than 25 medals at the Chimo Invitational

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association (CRGA) sent a big group of boys and to the Chimo competition held in Comox February 7th-9th, 2020.  This was the first competition for most of the athletes and they performed very well.

The total medal count included more than 25 medals including highlights of River Wangler, Sophie Pallan, Miley Konrad, and Haylee Toohey all coming home with the Silver medals in the All Around competitions in their respected divisions.

Madison Cook also capped things off coming home with the Bronze medal All Around in her division.  Congrats to all the athletes and looking forwards to a strong competitive season!  Below are all the results.

New skills unleashed in Coquitlam

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent athletes to the Winterfest competition held in Coquitlam on January 25th and 26th for their warm up competition of the year.  This is a great competition to try new skills and see where we are at.

Brooklyn Batch in the JO 10 division added a shoot over on bars for the first time, a back layout one and a half twist on off the beam as well as a split ¾ twist leap, and added a front layout 1&1/2 twist on the floor as well as a switch half to split full for her leap line.

Jordan Loock in JO 9 added a shoot over on bars, a switch leap to split leap and a split ¾ twist on the beam as well as a front layout 1&1/2 twist on the floor.

Tyza Skuse added a kip cast to handstand pirouette in her bar routine, and a switch leap to split leap on beam with a gainer back tuck dismount off the end.  Tyza also added a front pike to front layout on the floor with a double twist finish.

Ksenia Stansell added a back layout one and a half twist to punch front pike for the first time in her floor routine.

Hannah Herschler competed a cast to handstand, shoot up and giant all for the first time on bars.

Congratulations to Janika Scriba and Brooklyn Batch for coming home with a medal in the first meet of the year in JO level 10.

Janika received a Bronze on the bars while Brooklyn came home with a bronze medal on the floor.

Brooklyn Batch demonstrates a “Ring kick”

Campbell River Gymnastics represent at the BC Winter Games Trials

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association (CRGA) sent three athletes to the BC Winter Games Trials held in Nanaimo on January 5th.  Each athlete had new skills to demonstrate and had moved up into a new level.

Hannah Herschler was set to move up 2 levels and compete in the JO (Junior Olympic) Level 8 division for the first time before hurting her foot in warm up on vault warming up a new tsukahara vault.

Ava Lee competed in the JO 7 showing her giants on bars for the first time in competition.

Rayne Loock also competed in the JO 7 category showing a yurochenko vault, a clear hip to handstand and a giant on bars as well as a walkover back handspring series and roundoff back tuck dismount on the beam.

Ava Lee took 5th place on the beam, placed 9th on both vault and bars and finished 10th on floor to come home in 12th place in the All Around.

Rayne Loock took 7th place on beam, and finished 11th on vault, bars and floor to come home in 13th place in the All Around.

 

The next competition for the athletes will be in Coquitlam at the Winterfest competition in Club Aviva.

Brooklyn Batch and Carson Ogg compete in Delta

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent two gymnasts to Delta to compete in the Cash and Carry Invitational.  This is an opportunity for the athletes to compete against some of the top gymnasts in the Province.  The rules are modified but they were still up against some National Team members which makes for a cool experience.

Brooklyn Batch had a great competition winning a total of $450 dollars bringing in a Silver medal on the bars, taking 4th place on the vault, finishing 9th on floor and 17th on beam to come home in 4 place in the All Around.

Carson also did well placing 11th on the high bar, took 14th position on the parallel bars, placed 15th on rings, took 20th on vault, finished 26th on pommel and 33rd on floor to come home in 25th place (out of 43) in the All Around.

Congrats to our athletes.  Brooklyn and Carson are now training for next year getting ready to go National stream.

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent 22 athletes to the annual Garden City competition held in Victoria.  The girls performed well coming home with 17 medals and multiple ribbons.  Top All Around results include Shea Bridgen finishing with a Bronze All Around in the JO 7 group A division, Hannah Herschler bringing home the Bronze All Around in the JO 6 group A division and Shyanne Johnson captured the Silver medal on the JO 5 group A division.  Congrats to all the girls and below are the full results.

JO 5 group A

Shyanne Johnson captured the Silver medal on bars, won the Bronze medal on floor, finished 6th on beam and 7th on vault to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around.

JO 4 group A

Thea Gavel won the Bronze medal on floor, took the 5th place ribbon on bars, finished 9th on vault and 10th on beam to come home in 7th place in the All Around.

Ava Levins won the 7th place ribbon on beam, captured the 8th place ribbons on both vault and floor, finished 10th on bars to come home in 11th place in the All Around.

JO 4 group B

Myah Ward captured the 8th place ribbon on vault, took 10th place on both bars and beam, finished 11th on the floor to come home in 10th place in the All Around.

JO 4 group C

Ava Hershler won the 5th place ribbons on both vault and floor, took home the 7th place ribbons on both bars and beam to come home in 5th place in the All Around.

Jo 4 group D

Sophie Mayers won the 5th place ribbon on bars, placed 9th on the beam, finished 10th on both vault and floor to come home in 9th place in the All Around.

JO 3 group B

Miwako Mcguffie-Ogasawara won a Bronze medal on vault, took the 7th place ribbon on floor, finished 9th on beam and 10th on bars to come home in 8th place in the All Around.

Myya Lanqvist took the 10th place ribbons on both vault and beam, finished 11th on floor and 12th on bars to come home in 11th place in the All Around.

JO 3 group C

Kaylie Lofstrom captured the 4th place ribbon on vault, took the 6th place ribbon on floor, finished 7th on beam and 8th on bars to come home in 8th place in the All Around.

Grace Fraser won the Bronze medal on floor, captured the 6th place ribbon on bars, finished 9th on beam and 10th on vault to come home in 10th place in the All Around.

Sophie Pallan captured the 6th place ribbon on beam, won the 8th place ribbon on floor, finished 9th on bars and 11th on vault to come home in 11th place in the All Around.

JO 3 group D

Paityn Giesbrecht placed 11th on vault, bars, beam and floor coming home in 12th place in the All Around.

JO 3 group E

Scarlett Walker captured the Silver medal on floor, won the 5th place ribbon on vault, finished 9th on beam and 11th on bars to come home in 9th place in the All Around.
