Carson Ogg Creates history for Campbell River

Carson Ogg, a gymnast from the Campbell River Gymnastics Association made history by becoming the first gymnast from our club to compete at Elite Canada.  This competition, held February 11-17th,  is for National Team selection for the high performance Juniors and Seniors across the country.  Carson, a grade 12 student at Timberline, has worked many hours in and out of the gym preparing for this opportunity.  The competition is a two day competition where all athletes had to compete twice.  The final score of his 12 routines combined, put Carson in 7th place All Around in the country in the Junior (16-18) category.  His best results came on Floor where he finished in 5th place and on Vault where he finished in 6th.   Carson will now be competing at Twisters and Provincials to secure a spot to the Canadian Championships to compete for a chance to make our Junior National Team.  It’s an exciting time to have such a dedicated hard working athlete striving for these levels!  It is an inspiration to all of our athletes and the chemistry in the gym has been outstanding, despite the new changes to our competition format.  All competitions this year will be done virtually.  This means that all our athlete’s routines will be video recorded and submitted to the host club for judging.   Below are the full results.

Carson took home 5th place on floor, placed 6th on vault,  finished 10th on pommel horse, rings, parallel bars and high bar to come home in 7th All Around.

Strong showing for CR gymnasts in Surrey

The Carol Lenz Memorial classic and Surrey invitational took place March 6th-8th.  Campbell River sent 5 athletes to this competition.  The athletes had a strong competition bringing home 3 All Around Champions and all 5 athletes had podium finishes.

Brooklyn Batch connected a shoot over to free hip for the first time on bars, Janika Scriba connected a clear hip circle to toe on front dismount for the first time off bars as well.

Ksenia Stansell added a front tuck to back handspring connection on beam for the first time.

Owen Harbo competed his blind change on high bar successfully for the first time.

This competition also acted as 2nd trials to Canadian Championships for Carson Ogg.  Carson finished in 2nd place and his All Around score was good enough to qualify for funding to the Canadian Championships.  His final trials to Canadians will be at the Provincial Championships in April which will then finalize the team to Canadians.

Congrats to all the athletes!  Below are all the competition results.
