Podium finishes at the BC Winter Games for CR Gymnasts!!

Campbell River gymnasts had a great competition at the BC Winter Games held in Kamloops over the weekend. Jackson Martin came home with the Gold medal on the vault with a fantastic tsukahara pike. Hannah Sommer captured the Bronze medal on the bars with a solid clean routine and Ksenia Stansell brought home the Bronze medal on the vault with a huge tsukahara pike and finished 6th in the bar finials. Ksenia, Hannah along with Jadea Wilson and Shae Bridgen (4 members of a 6 person team) brought home the Bronze medal as a team!

Other big moments for the games include Nathan Kerluck finishing in 7th place in the All Around competition including being the only zone 6 gymnast to qualify for 3 event finals finishing in 8th place on the pommel horse and rings and finishing in 7th on the high bars. Owen Harbo won the 4th place ribbon on the pommel horse in the Men’s finals. Shea went to floor finals taking home 11th place. Jadea Wilson qualified for the bars finals bringing home an 8th place finish. Hannah Sommer finished in 8th place in the All Around while Ksenia captured 10th place in the All Around. JO 8

Hannah Sommer won the Bronze medal on bars, (Gold in prelims) placed 11th on vault, finished 16th on beam and 20th on floor to come home in 8th place in the All Around.

Ksenia Stansell captured the Bronze medal on vault (4th in prelims) won Bronze in prelims on bars, (6th in finals) placed 14th on floor and 27th on beam to come home in 10th place in the All Around.

JO 7

Shea Bridgen paced 7th on floor (prelims) placed 12th on beam, finished 16th on bars and 20th on the vault to come home in 15th place in the All Around.

Jadea Wilson won the Silver on bars in prelims, placed 18th on beam, finished 20th on floor and 22nd on vault to come home in 17th place in the All Around.

Boys Provincial 3

Nathan Kerluck won 4th place on pommel (prelims) 8th in finals, captured 5th on high bar in prelims and 7th in finals, took 8th on rings, placed 15th on floor, 18th on vault and 22nd on p-bars to come home in 7th place in the All Around.

Jackson Martin captured the Gold medal on vault, took 10th place on the high bar, placed 17th on floor, finished 19th on both pommel horse and parallel bars, placed 28th on the rings to come home in 21st in the All Around.

Owen Harbo won the 4th place ribbon on pommel horse, placed 16th on parallel bars, took 23rd spot on rings and vault, finished 24th on floor and high bar to come home in 22nd place in the All Around.

CR Gymnasts have success over the border

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent 5 athletes to the Charity Choice competition in the U.S February 16-18th. This competition was held in Tacoma and was is a huge competition hosting over 100 Level 10 athletes from all over the States. “It was a great experience for our athletes to see all types of athletes, they had really strong athletes doing skills like yurochenko double twist on vault and arabian front tuck on the beam to full twisting double backs on the floor. Some of the athletes were strong hitting excellent routines while many attempted big skills that fell short. It really was a great competition to be a part of and to see that our athletes are headed in the right direction.

Janika Scriba started us out in the JO Level 10 division with a 10th place finish on beam, placing 11th on both vault and floor (sticking a beautiful double back) not finishing the All Around as she scratched bars due to a lack of time in warmup.

Brooklyn Batch had a strong performance in the JO 9 division capturing the Silver medals on both vault and floor. Brooklyn won 4th place medals on both bars and beam to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around only .1 away from winning the All Around title.

Chloe Doyon was also competing in the JO level 9 division. She stuck a beautiful tusk pike to capture the 4th place on vault, took 8th place on bars with a solid routine, finished 9th on floor and 10th on beam to come home in 8th place in the All Around.

Kaitlynn Beaulieu competing in the JO 6 SR division hit a solid beam routine to capture 9th place. Kaitlynn placed 11th on the bars and finished in 12th on both vault and floor to come home in 12th place in the All Around.

Makena Movold competed in the JO 6 JR division came home with an 8th place medal on the beam, placed 11th on the vault, finished in 12th on the bars and 13th on the floor to come home in 12th place in the All Around.

Congrats to the girls on their first trip south of the border!!

CR Gymnasts flip flop and fly in Comox

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association sent a small army to compete in the annual Pajama party competition held in Comox on February 10th and 11th. The girls and boys had a great competition combining for over 20 medals including 4 athletes finishing in the top 3 in the All Around including 2 All Around Champions.

Many of the athletes show cased new skills. Jackson Martin added a back layout 1 and a half twist on the floor, a maghar travel on the pommel horse, a double back off the rings, and a tsuk tuck on the vault. Nathan Kerluck added a back layout on the floor, and a front handspring full off the vault. A strong start to the year for the athletes! The following are the results of the competition.

Girls JO 6A division

Jadea Wilson captured the Gold medal on the bars, won Silver medals on both beam and floor, finished 5th on vault to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around, only .28 out of first place!

Ava Lee won the Silver medal on bars, captured the Bronze on beam, placed 4th on floor, finished 7th on vault to come home in 4th place in the All Around.

Makena Movold captured a Silver medal on vault, placed 5th on the bars, finished 7th on both beam and floor to come home in 7th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 6B division

Alexandra Smith won the Gold medal on vault, captured Silver medals on both bars and floor, finished 6th on the beam to come home as the All Around Champion!

Kaitlynn Beaulieu captured the Bronze medals on both bars and floor, placed 4th on beam and 5th on the vault to come home in 4th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 5

Rihanna Dill won the 6th place ribbons on both bars and beam, placed 7th on both vault and floor to come home in 5th place in the All Around.

Alexis Reise captured the 4th place ribbon on beam, took home the 5th place ribbons on vault and floor and finished 7th on bars to come home in 6th place in the All Around.

Grace Lelliot won the 4th place ribbon on vault, took the 5th place ribbon on bars, finished 6th on floor and 7th on beam to come home in 7th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 4A division

Myah Ward captured the 4th place ribbons on both vault and bars and took the 5th place ribbons on both beam and floor to come home in 5th place in the All Around.

Lila Tree won the Silver medal on bars, captured the 6th place ribbon on the vault, finished 7th on floor and 9th on the beam to come home in 6th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 4B division

Michaela Pontious captured the Gold medal on the vault, won the Silver medal on beam, took the 6th place ribbon on bars and finished 8th on floor to come home in 4th place in the All Around.

Shyanne Johnson won the 4th place ribbon on beam, took the 5th place ribbon on bars, finished 6th on floor and 8th on the vault to come home in 6th place in the All Around.

Ava Levins won the Bronze medal on vault, captured the 6th place ribbon on beam, finished 8th on bars and 9th on the floor to come home in 7th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 3A division

Sophia Mayers won the Bronze medal on vault, captured the 4th place ribbon on beam, placed 7th on floor and 9th on bars to come home in 5th place in the All Around.

Grace Fraser won the 7th place ribbon on vault, took 10th place on both bars and floor, finished 11th on beam to come home in 10th place in the All Around.

Sophie Pallan captured the 4th place ribbon on beam, won the 8th place ribbon on vault, finished 13th on both bars and floor to come home in 11th place in the All Around.

Chloe Stewart won the 10th place ribbon on beam, placed 11th on both vault and bars, finished 14th on floor to come home in 13th place in the All Around.

Arianne Mullett won the 8th place ribbon on beam, took the 10th place ribbon on vault, finished 11th on floor and 14th on bars to come home in 14th place in the All Around.

Girls JO 3B division

Isabelle Alsager won the 6th place ribbon on vault, took the 10th place ribbon on beam, finished 12th on floor and 13th on bars to come home in 12th place in the All Around.

Girls JO3C division

Alyssa Wood captured the 6th place ribbon on floor, took the 8th place ribbon on vault, finished 11th on both bars and beam to come home in 10th place in the All Around.

Sophia Andersen-Roberts won the 10th place ribbon on beam, took 11th place on floor, finished 13th on both vault and bars to come home in 12th place in the All Around.

Bayla Wilson placed 12th on vault, bars and beam and finished 14th on the floor. Bayla came home in 14th place in the All Around.

Boys Provincial 4 division

Jack Martin captured the Gold medals on floor, pommel horse, vault and parallel bars while winning the Silver medals on rings and high bar to come home as the All Around Champion.

Nathan Kerluck won the Gold medals on rings and high bar and captured the Silver medals on floor, pommel horse, vault and parallel bars to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around.

7 CRGA Gymnasts qualify for the BC Winter Games

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association is sending 4 girls and 3 boys to the BC Winter Games. The Games will be held in Kamloops, February 22nd-26th.
The girls had to compete against 34 athletes at the trials event in Duncan, fighting for 6 spots. The top 3 athletes in JO 7 and top 3 athletes in JO 8 and the top 4 Level 3 boys represent zone 6 which includes Powell River and all clubs on the Island. In the JO 8 division, Hannah Sommer and Ksenia Stansell were 2nd and 3rd respectively while in the JO 7, Shea Bridgen and Jadea Wilson also came home in 2nd and 3rd.
The boys that qualified for the games include Jack Martin, Nathan Kerluck and Owen Harbo. A boy from Victoria will join them as well. This competition will be a great opportunity for these young athletes. It is a big competition with hundreds of athletes that will be competing in different sports!
Congratulations to all 7 athletes that made the team!! Nya Chailler, finishing 6th in the JO 8 division competed a tsuk tuck for the first time on vault and added a standing back tuck on the beam. Jordan Loock finishing in the 11th spot in JO 8 added a free hip to handstand on the top bar on the uneven bars. Tyza Skuse finished a tight competition taking 5th place in the JO 7 division only .425 away from the first place finisher. The following are the individual results

Ksenia Stansell won the Golds on both vault and bars, captured a Silver on the floor and came home in 9th place on the beam to finish with the Bronze medal in the All Around.
Nya Chailler won the Bronze on beam, placed 4th on bars, finished 6th on floor and 12th on vault to come home in 6th place in the All Around.
Jordan Loock placed 5th on the beam, took 10th place on both vault and floor and came home in 11th on bars to finish in 11th in the All Around.

Shea Bridgen captured Bronze on both beam and floor, finished 4th on bars, placed 19th on the vault to come home with the Silver medal in the All Around.
Jadea Wilson captured the Gold on floor, captured the Silver on beam, placed 4th on bars and 19th on vault to come home with the Bronze medal in the All Around.
Tyza Skuse captured the Silver on bars, placed 7th on the floor and 8th on beam, finished 14th on the vault to come home in 5th place in the All Around.

Campbell River Gymnasts find success in Coquitlam

The Campbell River Gymnastics Association (CRGA) sent a group of girls to the mainland for the Winterfest Invitational held in Coquitlam January 27th . For some of the girls, it was their first time competing since the end of last season. The girls came out trying many new skills that they are trying to perfect for the season. “Many of the new skills were performed quite well! A promising start to the new year!” coach Sader commented.

Janika Sriba, competiting in the JO (Junior Olympic) level 10 for the first times came out with over a dozen new skills. She performed a yurochenko layout on the vault capturing a gold medal in the process, did a shoot over to handstand and a toe on to handstand on the bars, added a switch mount, aerial roundoff connection, a switch to split three quarters and a back layout one and a half twist dismount on the beam and on floor topped it off with a double back mount with a whip back full and connected a leg up double turn to a reverse double turn out. Brooklyn Batch second year JO level 9 added a toe on to handstand on the bars along with a giant full and a double back finish. On beam she added a jump to split mount. In her floor routine she added a back layout one and a half twist connected to a front pike salto. She also added a front handspring layout half and a leg up full turn. Ksenia Stansell in JO 8 competed a tsuk pike on the vault and competed a roundoff back layout off the beam. Nya Chailler competed a freehip half turn on the bars as well as a back handspring back tuck series on the beam for the first time. Jordan Loock, also JO 8 was successful with her freehip on the high bar at this competition adding a switch leap on the beam. Tyza Skuse competing in the JO 8 category for the first time added a tsuk pike on the vault, added pirouette on the bars, competed a back layout one and a half twist on the floor as well as a front tuck front tuck connection.
